If you didn’t go up to the top of the Eiffel tower on your last trip to the capital, you might be wishing you had! Ticket prices are set to sky rocket to help fund the looming renovations. An adult ticket to the top floor is being raised from €17 to €25, while a ticket for the second floor is rising from €11 to €16. Of course, this is only if you want to benefit from the lifts. If you’re enthusiastic about climbing the stairs, you’ll only pay €10 compared to the previous price of €7.
The hike in prices will go towards the already started works on the tower as well as increased security. Over the course of 15 years, €300 million will be spent on one of the world’s most popular tourist attractions including the anticipated bulletproof glass surrounding. It’s a pity such ugly protection is needed in this brave new world of ours.
Since Paris hosted the Euro cup in 2016, the Eiffel tower has had metal barricades surrounding her glory but these temporary measures will now be replaced with extra clear glass, intended to provide extra security from terrorists.
While we’re all for protecting our great city and the tourists that flock here every year, we can’t help but think the proposed design of the glass barricades won’t do much to counter-terrorism and are simply an eyesore. Many Parisians aren’t happy with Mayor Hidalgo’s decision, and we’re not sure we are either!
