It’s the 70th anniversary of the Cannes film festival this year, and boy, has it ever looked so good. Having first began in 1946 right after the first world war, Cannes remains the largest film festival in the world that continuously raises the bar for film distribution and some of the most memorable fashion hits in the history of celebrities.
Take a beach, take some glamorous hotels, have a drink, and watch some films – if this is work, then we’re in. Sign us up for this gig surrounded by the heavy hitters of cinema. The grand mistress of affairs this year is Monica Bellucci (ex partner to French actor Vincent Cassel who is frequently spotted at the Hotel Costes – you’re welcome) and the festival is set to be host to a number of highly anticipated films including the latest by Spanish director Pedro Almodovar (also on the jury this year for judging films), American director Todd Haynes and a biographical film about beloved British author Roald Dahl.
There is also a bevy of controversy growing over a newly implemented rule at the festival barring unreleased theatrical films (read: anything you watch on a streaming service, like Netflix) from winning the top prize at Cannes, the Palme d’Or.
