November and December are full of national holidays when you have some extra days off of work or school, why not go outside Paris and enjoy some fresh air? Lyon, 2-hour TGV away and “the world capital of gastronomy”, comes highly recommended by The Non-Parisian. This time of the year, Lyon becomes ever more culturally vibrated with the Biennale.

Usines Fagors

Biennale is ever trendy in the contemporary art scene. La Biennale de Lyon, more creative, less commercialized, welcomes it’s 15th edition this year. “Where water comes together with other water” is this edition’s title and theme. A suitable title when Biennale de Lyon is all about artists from different cultural backgrounds coming together, and a clever title when there are rivers Saône and Rhône merging together in Lyon.

From 18th September 2019 to 5 January 2020, three main venues of the Biennale: Musée d’art contemporain de Lyon (MAC), Usines Fagor, and Institut d’art contemporain de Villeurbanne (IAC) welcome art lovers from all over the world.

Musée d’art contemporain on the riverside is accessible by walking through Lyon’s famous Parc de la tête d’or (Golden head park), a favorite gathering place for local families and friends. A stroll in the park and a visit to the museum easily make up for a wonderful afternoon itinerary.

For this 15th edition of Biennale, MAC invites eight international artists to get creative with the spacious, prestigious 4-floor building. Visitors are first greeted by the two large veils of Josèfa Ntjam.

Petrit Halilaj @Usines Fagor

Usines Fagors assembles 47 artists in its 4-hall industrial compound. With multiple installations and video works, this venue might need some extra time and energy to contemplate on.

IAC Villeurbanne

At last, there is IAC, a playground designated for Young International Artists. This year, ten young star artists have the opportunity to demonstrate their potential and artistic visions in the much loved, avant-garde institution.
