We have escaped (for now) nuclear war, being run over by hurried Parisians (but not in 2016), and aggressive elderly people at the pop art exhibitions. And just like that, the year has somehow quickly ended with one month left to the horror film that was 2017. En fait, it feels like it was just yesterday when we told ourselves we’d finally be winter chic ready and instead ended up spilling crumbs all over our coats while effortlessly stylish people walked by us with baguettes in their bags and deep, ferocious envy in our hearts. But anyways. It’s December, So why not shop, drink hot chocolate, and do some stuff you can’t do another 335 days during the year? Here are our top recommended events or going ons for you to s’amuser besides just shopping, because it’s also…the holiday season!

There is a Salon Du Cheval running until December 3rd. If you’re into horses, this event is into you. The event takes place at the Paris Norde Villepinte Exhbition Center (say that three times as fast)
If you’re into artists going mad and how mental illness impacts art, go to the Maison Victor Hugo for our favorite hidden gem exhibition that just opened up and is sure not to have a lot of visitors since who wants to depress themselves and ruin the atmosphere holiday cheer? (well, some of us do…we’re realists).
He wasn’t just a prolific pervert, but also a painter. Check out an exhbition about Gauguin at the Grand Palais touting the “Arist as Alchemist”, running until January 22nd, 2018.

Once upon a time, the writer of this post asked her friends what makes a good love story. Her favorite answer was “The Addams Family”. Luckily for you and for the writer, there is a musical theater version going on until December 30th at Le Palace – un spectacle musical that calls itself…wait for it…in French…La Famille Addams. Ayyy Gomez ! will run until December 30th.

There is a circus in town (no, not Paris Fashion week) at the Cirque Bouglione running until March 11th at the complex known as the Cirque d’Hiver. We are sure it’ll be a real…circus (punchlines, anyone?)
Elton John is in Paris on December 1st at the AccorHotels Arena. Go before you wake up to a tragic TMZ headline of a sudden unexpected celebrity death and then the rule of 3 famous dead people happening all at once comes true (we fear for Ozzy Osbourne here, actually).

If you’re into classical music, check out the event pages of the one of many churches in Paris. Around this time of year, everyone is busting out performances of Vivaldi (why though…?) and company.

From December 15th through December 18th, La Cité de la Mode et du Design is holding a trade show – Noel Gourmand – which is basically an excuse for you to eat your heart out of artisanal French goods without French people judging you with snide indirect comments (opportunities to eat like a glutton and not get these comments are few and far between, folks…take advantage while you can).

Dying to light up your Instagram? Head on over to one of the multiple holiday light displays at the windows of the famous grand magasins. Or stay tuned until our post about it, and then go, thinking similar sharked and snarky thoughts of the blissful and unaware tourists around you.

ENFIN: they don’t do fireworks here in Paris except for on Bastille Day, so if you’re looking for a New Year’s Eve lightshow, do it in true expat in France style by TONING DOWN YOUR EXPECTATIONS and EXPECTING NOTHING TO WORK during the light show on the Champs-Elysees to ring in the New Year on December 31st.
